We are about to have mdf plantation shutters fitted. When our fitter came to measure up I looked at both wood and mdf and decided on mdf (you can also get ldf - low density fibreboard). The mdf seems to be harder wearing as the wood doesn't withstand knocks as well - it will dint like wooden floorboards can.
