Laminate Back & Sides, Solid Top Simon & Patrick Songsmith Concert Hall. This OM sounds fantastic. Featuring a laminate cherry back and sides and a sophisticated burst finish over a solid spruce top, it sits at a very feasible price point for a Canadian built instrument.
I tend to think that the quality of the top wood (stiffness, and strength) the arching of the top and back, and the bracing, will have more to do with the overall sound, than solid or laminate back and sides.

23/03/2018 · Laminate sides are often a little less lively than solid, and I agree can tend to be a bit more midrangey. Not necessarily a bad thing in the context of a song. One of my very favorite acoustics is a midrangey old Gibson.

My favorite is the AD20SM, it is a Dreadnaught shape/size with a solid spruce top, SOLID mahogany back, & laminate sides. For the price, I’ve never heard better tone in that price range. The playability is excellent as well.
08/03/2011 · The cheapest guitars are usually laminated all over. Mid priced guitars and most entry level high end guitars (Martins, Matons etc.) have solid wood tops but laminate or composite back and sides.High priced guitars are all solid wood.
I honestly feel that guitars with laminated back and sides - when done right - can sound as good as solid wood. I don't own a Gibson acoustic (though I'm dying for a AJ), but have owned a classic Guild with solid rosewood back and sides, and a Larrivee with solid mahogany back and sides.::::::::
