05/06/2015 · In my duck boat I used a 1 x 6 piece of solid composite decking. It’s a little pricey, but it sure beats having to replace it every few years or having to seal the hell out of a piece of wood. I did learn that you have to pre-drill the holes if you want to put screws into it.

26/12/2012 · Re: solid wood transoms on a stitch and glue boat I would think you could make a transom frame, basically a frame at the back of the boat, screw the plank end to that, and then attach the transom. That would avoid screwing into end grain.

My I/O Boat Transom Repair ... it's moving. The only way it's moving enough to crack this badly is if the wood in your transom is rotten, or the previous owner backed the boat into something. ... remove the whole thing. Rot is a fungus and exists in areas that look completely solid. If you fix the boat here and there, you might be facing rot ...::::::::
